Next week I pause my sabbatical / freelance life that I’ve had going on for the last 2 years, and join the team at Stellar Entertainment! I’ll be doing animation, rigging and motion design over there, working on a cool new racing project.

This was honestly not a part of my plan - instead this opportunity came completely out of nowhere for me. They found my motion design reel on YouTube and reached out - it was such a niche and specific message that at first I thought it was a scam!

It was a long interview process - there were 5 separate stages, and 7 different interviews in total. However, everyone I met was very nice and kind and considerate of my time.

  1. Initial online screening interview with their in-house recruiter.
  2. Online interview with the studio art director, along with a brief for an animation test.
  3. Animation test!
  4. In-person interviews with their lead designer, UI artist, art directors, and art team.
  5. Online interview with another art director, and creative director.

It was a large goal of mine before the sabbatical to return to work working in entertainment. However, it was still a big decision, especially as the studio is in Guildford. But after meeting the team, talking to my partner and family about it, and reflecting on it a LOT, I decided it’s worth giving it a go.

I’m very, very excited to be working in games. I plan to give it all my focus, and so personal work - for the first time in 5 years, for the first time since I’ve started my career - will be taking a backseat. At least for the first few months, until I find my footing! I plan to use the time inbetween work to recover from the commute.

I also intend to write more on this blog! I really love blogs and writing. It’s been a consistent outlet in my life for a very long time. I’ll also be working on updating the rest of my site to reflect my long term ambitions, which is why a lot of content has been temporarily archived.
